DONALDSONVILLE – Ascension Catholic’s girls power-lifting team will seek its third straight state title with five qualifiers advancing to the championship in Monroe March 17-19.
The boys team advanced six lifters and took second place with 31 points at the East Regional Power-lifting meet Feb. 25 at Lowery Middle School. The girls placed fourth with 24 points and will try to repeat with the five who advanced by finishing in the top three of their weight class.
Placing second in boys lifting were Nick Milano (132 pounds) with a total lift of 895 pounds, Alex Troxclair (181) lifting 1,110 pounds and Ashton Bourgeois (220) producing a total of 1,265 pounds on the bench press, squat and dead-lift.
Third-place finishers were Hunter Soileau (114) lifting 625 pounds, John Broussard (148) totaling 980 pounds and Robert Lemann (198) finishing with 1,015 pounds.
Ascension Catholic’s girls team had two lifters place second in Micalyn Daigle (123) totaling 665 pounds and Isabelle Abadie (148) with a three-lift total of 680 pounds. Placing third were Hannah Settoon (105) with a lift of 480 pounds, Paige Joseph (123) totaling 600 pounds and Kenshell Davis (198) lifting 780 pounds.
