Shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday , April 8, officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance call claiming a man and woman were fighting. The caller informed dispatchers that the male was brandishing a gun.
As officers arrived on scene at Abe St., they witnessed a male and female in the road. The male took off on foot, fleeing from the officers.
Officers gave chase, and the male jumped into Bayou Francois. Officers noticed he was in distress, so immediately jumped in after him to assist. He could not locate the man.
Gonzales Fire and Rescue were called in to assist with the finding or recovery efforts and later recovered the body of 25 year-old Jerrick Lane.
An autopsy is pending, with the suspected cause of death believed to be drowning.
