Ascension actress reigns as Voodoo Princess at Sundance Film Festival

shannaThis isn’t the first year she’s been to Sundance, but Shanna Forrestall, Ascension Parish native and New Orleans based actress says it was the “best.”

“This was definitely the best trip I’ve had to the Sundance Film Festival.  It was the largest Louisiana representation we’ve had at the festival, the largest Louisiana party, and the most productive trip for LIFF (Louisiana International Film Festival) and for my personal career to date.”

shanna1Forrestall traveled with Chesley Heysmfield the Executive Director of LIFF, along with a team of Louisiana media, talent and volunteers to host the Voodoo Love party in Park City on January 20, 2014 celebrating Louisiana’s highly successful film and production industry.

The group also included two Louisiana based talent who Forrestall considers “friends.”  John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard, Smallville, etc.) who wrote and directed Smothered, a feature film she starred in that will release in 2014 and fellow actor Dwight Henry (Beasts of the Southern Wild, 12 Years a Slave) who also lives in New Orleans, LA.

“The party was an absolute success.  We spent a few days before the party just spreading the word using our ‘southern charm’ and a few of Composite FX (a Louisiana company) masks, and our promotional work paid off.  It was packed, all night… and it’s definitely the party everyone’s talking about as the best at Sundance!”

Over 700 key filmmakers and industry professionals attended the party that featured music by Louisiana’s own C.C. Adocck and the Lafayette Marquis, as well as specialty Cajun cuisine and cocktails prepared by Chefs Cody & Samantha Carroll, the King & Queen of Louisiana Seafood.

shanna3Forrestall reigned as the Voodoo Princess, along with her Prince Alexander Antebi (musician) showcasing a stunning feather headdress created by Natalie J Pierce of High Flying Fancy and a show-stopping stone necklace by Bella Dame Bijoux, both New Orleans designers.

“These moments when I get to represent Louisiana … her rich culture, heritage, music, food and talent are an honor.  It’s always amazing to me how excited people are when I talk about being from south Louisiana.  They love hearing about our unique home, and I’m always happy to share.”

Forrestall is a full-time actress and producer whose career has accelerated over the past few years, including a list of films, and TV including her role as host of Investigation Discovery’s “Southern Fried Homicide.”  She has several large films coming out in theaters this year including John Schneider’s Smothered, as well as Heat, Left Behind and Student Bodies.  More information about Forrestall can be found at www.shannafromlouisiana.com.
