Alligator Bayou Road to close in Ascension Parish for drainage work

TheCreole_Icons_APGov_V1Officials with Ascension Parish’s East Ascension Consolidated Gravity Drainage District No. 1 announced today Alligator Bayou Road will be closed at the Frog Bayou Lock on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7 a.m. until further notice.

Drainage department crews will be installing and operating three pumps on the Ascension Parish side of Alligator Bayou Road to help drain the Bluff Swamp area into Bayou Manchac. The pumps will be located near the Frog Bayou Lock. The increased water level in the basin was due to heavy rains experienced during the last two weeks.

Officials said the closure will remain in effect until the water in the Bluff Swamp basin lowers to a safe level. Officials said the work would take approximately two weeks

  1. Charles Hollier says:

I enjoy Sunday cruises through that road. I is also a nice cut through to home after LSU games.

  2. I wonder why they don't just open the gate(s) rather than pump?

  3. The gate at Frog Bayou which drains the swamp is open. 24 Hrs. resulted in a 1/8" drop in water level. Of course the differential of the rate of flow varies but if it were linear it would take 45 – 60 days to drain.
