As traffic complaints were a factor during the 2012 Louisiana Hot Air Balloon Championship event, the Ascension Festivals and Cultural Council has met with traffic authorities and are pleased to officially release new maps highlighting traffic flow and optimal routes for entry into the 2013 Louisiana Hot Air Balloon Championship.
Each route will be monitored by both local and state law enforcement agencies to ensure that traffic flows consistently throughout peak travel times. Helicopter teams with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office will be making regular trips throughout peak times and are prepared to make adjustments as necessary.
Traffic flow has been separated into three areas:
- From Baton Rouge – exit Interstate 10 at Hwy. 73 and turn left onto Hwy. 30. Then take a right onto Ashland Rd. for a dedicated entrance.
- From New Orleans – exit Interstate 10 at Hwy. 30, taking a left. Travel to St. Landry Rd., taking another left directly into the festival.
- From Gonzales – head south on Hwy. 44, then right onto Hwy.22 before turning right onto River Road. From there, pick up the Ashland Rd. to the dedicated entrance.
Each map is shown and indicates the preferred travel routes when coming from one of these locations.
