Parish man arrested after undercover Internet Crimes Against Children operation

RICHEY_JAMES_0000_158608 (3)After a tip from a concerned resident, we were able to today contact the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and confirm that on May 24, an Ascension Parish man was arrested and now faces charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile and computer aided solicitation of a minor.

On May 24, three law enforcement agencies, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, State Attorney General’s Office and Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, took part in a joint search that led to the arrest of James W. Richey Jr., 50, of 13234 Lambert Rd. in Gonzales.

Richey’s arrest was part of an undercover operation led by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. During the course of the investigation, it was found that Richey chatted with an undercover agent, who he believed to be a fourteen-year-old female after meeting  in a Yahoo chat room in November of 2012.

According to the EBR Parish Sheriff’s Office, during the communications, Richey used “lewd and lascivious textual messages.”

It was also stated that Richey submitted online photos of his genitalia intended for the teenaged female.

Richey is employed as a school bus driver with the Ascension Parish School Board.

“When notified of Richey’s arrest, we took action to suspend him indefinitely pending the outcome of the complete investigation,” said Ascension Parish School Board Public Information Officer Johnnie Balfantz.

Richey was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail in Donaldsonville.

    That was my bus driver…

  2. I graduated with James from high school and I am truly shocked. James was always a quiet and shy person in school. I pray that his family will be okay I am sure this is a huge shock for them as well and I hope that this community will support them. I never knew that James was such a sick person I hope that he gets the help that he needs.

  3. Dianna Mischler Lavidalie says:

Frightening that this man was a school bus driver…………

    • Wow! Yes, frightening! Look at that man that had the three young women for ten years prisoners at his house. He was a school driver. We have to be so careful!

  4. He needs to be in the slam for a very long time. That is one sick excuse of a man. Maybe they will put him in the same cell as Pusch and they can beat each other to death.

  5. Sean Adams says:

I don't rejoice over news like this I have known JR for 8 years he never gave me any indications of having such poor judgment. All I can ask is JR what were you thinking? This is a hard way to go out JR don't do anything else stupid your life here is over it doesn't mean your life is over so sad you didn't use your head and try to see females you own age or at least over 21. When I find somebody online is under 21 IDC what they wish to discuss I tell them I don't talk to children online IDC if they are male female if they wish to talk about God or sports they need to find people their own age there are too many stories I have heard of men being falsely accused and I don't have time for that sort of bullshit. What a dumbass!
