After a tip from a concerned resident, we were able to today contact the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and confirm that on May 24, an Ascension Parish man was arrested and now faces charges of indecent behavior with a juvenile and computer aided solicitation of a minor.
On May 24, three law enforcement agencies, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, State Attorney General’s Office and Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, took part in a joint search that led to the arrest of James W. Richey Jr., 50, of 13234 Lambert Rd. in Gonzales.
Richey’s arrest was part of an undercover operation led by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. During the course of the investigation, it was found that Richey chatted with an undercover agent, who he believed to be a fourteen-year-old female after meeting in a Yahoo chat room in November of 2012.
According to the EBR Parish Sheriff’s Office, during the communications, Richey used “lewd and lascivious textual messages.”
It was also stated that Richey submitted online photos of his genitalia intended for the teenaged female.
Richey is employed as a school bus driver with the Ascension Parish School Board.
“When notified of Richey’s arrest, we took action to suspend him indefinitely pending the outcome of the complete investigation,” said Ascension Parish School Board Public Information Officer Johnnie Balfantz.
Richey was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail in Donaldsonville.
